Day Five – A Favorite Quote

Thirty Day Challenge – Day Five

A Favorite Quote

I happen to love good quotes, so this was a hard decision, but….

“An act of courage is not necessarily done by someone who feels brave when they do it; True courage, is when someone feels fear, and yet does it anyway.”

~Unknown~

and another that is like it but simpler:

“Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.”

~John Wayne~

So what is courage?

Courage. Noun.

The ability to do something that frightens one.

Strength in the face of pain or grief.

(Courtesy of the dictionary on my computer dashboard.)

So if you want to be courageous, than you’re going to be scared.  And that’s okay, because it means we have to lean on the Lord, and He commanded us to be strong and courageous. In Joshua chapter one, God used the word “Courageous” four times, when speaking to Joshua.  Joshua must have been pretty scared, but he had to lean on the Lord and be courageous instead of fearful.

The Bible says 365 times, “Do not fear.” (Or the equivalent.) So what I take away from that is, “You’re going to be afraid, but don’t stay afraid!  Be of good courage!

  1. Good quote Mamie. I love so many, too. This one is from John Wesley: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you can.”
