Very early this morning, a man murdered twelve people and injured about fifty others.
All over the nation I’ve seen people lifting up prayers and morning the deaths. Grieving the evil.
Just a few weeks ago, many in this same state lost everything they owned to ravaging fires.
All around us, loss seems to prevail. Darkness follows us at every turn.
And yet, hope lives on.
Over the past few days, I’ve rejoiced over the birth of a tiny baby born to a couple we know. On Wednesday 2 lbs. 1oz Dominic Estrada was born kicking and screaming.
What a juxtaposition this is.
Horrific death. And life. Vibrant life.
In the midst of sorrow, joy is born.
Do not despair when trouble comes. Because Jesus lives, we also can live with hope. And cling to the pieces of beauty that He gives us. Though we grieve death, we can also celebrate birth.“They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Zion, and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the Lord…I will turn their mourning into joy; I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow…declares the Lord.” – From Jeremiah 31:12-14
